DNS records are the set of instructions that live in the DNS Zone and provide information about a domain. This includes what IP address is associated with that domain and subdomains, what mail server email should be sent to, and more.
Common Types of DNS Records
A Records
Defines an IPv4 for the hostname.
AAAA Records
Defines an IPv6 for the hostname.
CNAME Records
Maps a subdomain to another domain, not IP.
MX Records
Defines a mail server name to send emails to.
TXT Records
Defines text entries, often used for security and verification purposes.
CAA Records
Defines which Certificate Authorities can issue SSL Certificates for the domain.
SRV Records
Defines ports and routes information for specific services such as phone systems, and messaging.
