DNS records are the set of instructions that live in the DNS Zone and provide information about a domain. This includes what IP address is associated with that domain and subdomains, what mail server email should be sent to, and more.
Common Types of DNS Records
A Records – Defines an IPv4 for the hostname.
AAAA Records – Defines an IPv6 for the hostname.
CNAME Records – Maps a subdomain to another domain, not IP.
MX Records – Defines a mail server name to send emails to.
TXT Records – Defines text entries, often used for security and verification purposes.
CAA Records – Defines which Certificate Authorities can issue SSL Certificates for the domain.
SRV Records – Defines ports and routes information for specific services such as phone systems, and messaging.
